The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) has announced a power system disruption in its National Interconnected Transmission System leading to widespread interruption of its electricity supply on Wednesday 29th July 2026.
In a statement released following the incident, GRIDCo explained that it had taken notice of disruption and added that the tripping of some generating plants across the national power system brought about this disruption.
GRIDCo added that its engineers and system operators are actively working to ensure the restoration of power within the shortest possible time.
GRIDCo also added that investigations are currently in place as well to determine the precise cause of this system event.
GRIDCo then proceeded to apologies for the several inconveniences caused whiles also expressing its full commitment to restoring power to all affected customers within the quickest time possible .
GRIDCo was incorporated in December 2006 to carry out the economic dispatching and transmission of electricity from facilities of wholesale suppliers (Independent Power Producers (IPPs]) to bulk customers and distribution utilities in Ghana and West Africa. It operates the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) and currently transmits electricity to thirty-three (31) Bulk Customers and Distribution Utilities from eleven (11) Wholesale Suppliers, including the Volta River Authority (VRA).
