The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has announced that petrol is expected to increase by 4.24%, diesel by 10.23%, and LPG will sell at GHS 15.32 per kg in the second window of September 2026, starting from the 16th of September.
According to analytics, global crude oil prices rose significantly from $89.30 per barrel to $103.07. The Ghanaian Cedi appreciated slightly by 0.29% against the US dollar, closing at GHS 11.48.
Consumers can expect the following changes during the second pricing window of September:
• Petrol: Projected to increase by 4.24%, bringing the retail price to an average of GHS 16.26 per litre (expected range: GHS 15.44 – GHS 17.08/l).
• Diesel: Projected to rise by 10.23%, raising pump prices to an average of GHS 19.07 per litre (expected range: GHS 18.12 – GHS 20.02/l).
• LPG: Projected to sell at GHS 15.32 per kg (expected range: GHS 14.55 – GHS 16.08/kg) following a 16.45% hike in international benchmarks.
COPEC has appealed to the government to extend its subsidy intervention beyond the first window of September by giving petrol consumers a GHS 1/l relief, while maintaining the GHS 2/l subsidy on diesel. They also urge the government to expedite the expansion of the Tema Oil Refinery from 45,000 barrels per day to 100,000 barrels per day, while also calling on oil marketing companies to absorb part of their margins in order to avoid burdening customers.
