The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has expressed optimism about the country receiving another credit rating upgrade, following recent macroeconomic gains.
Speaking at Fidelity Bank’s inaugural Debt Capital Markets Conference yesterday, the Governor stated that he is hopeful of another upgrade in the country’s international credit rating, following recent engagement with Moody’s Corporation.

“Only yesterday I had a meeting with another rating agency, Moody’s, and we are hoping that this year, in the second half of this year, we could get another upgrade in our rating,” he stated.
Dr. Asiama also explained that even though there have been calls for a review of the country’s inflation target due to the macroeconomic gains achieved, the country cannot afford to do so due to external factors and risks, such as the Middle East tensions.
“The single most important achievement of recent years has been the progress on inflation. Headline inflation has fallen you’ll remember from a peak of over 54 percent in December 2022 down to a mere 4.6 percent as of July this year. We are now comfortably within, and indeed below, our medium-term target band of eight plus or minus two percent. Nowadays I get calls asking whether we should not amend the target band in other words, are we too good for eight plus or minus two percent? And I’m quick to remind them that we still have the President of the United States what he says in the morning and what he does not say and what happens in the Iran-US crisis is still an elephant in the room,” the Governor said.
The Fidelity Bank Debt Capital Markets Conference 2026 was held under the theme “Lower Rates, Higher Opportunity: Unlocking Growth Through the Debt Capital Markets,” and brought together policymakers, institutional investors, and market regulators to discuss turning macroeconomic stability into long-term investment capital.
