GRIDCo Moves to Restore Power After Akosombo-Volta Line Fault Triggers Outages

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced that its national power system experienced a major fault on the Akosombo-Volta transmission line, causing power outages across some parts of the country.

In a statement, GRIDCo explained that the fault caused the tripping of the Akosombo generating plants as part of the system’s protection mechanisms, designed to safeguard the integrity and stability of the National Interconnected Transmission System.

GRIDCo assured stakeholders that its engineers, working closely with other power sector agencies, have taken measures to isolate the affected transmission line and have begun a safe, systematic process to restore the power system, adding that power has already been supplied to some affected areas.

GRIDCo apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outage, while assuring the public that relevant teams are being mobilized for urgent work to fully restore power to impacted communities.

Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is an electricity company in Ghana, incorporated in December 2006 as a private limited liability company with a mandate to ensure the provision of transparent, non-discriminatory, and open access to the transmission grid for all participants in the power market.
