GWL Announces Water Supply Disruption in Western Accra After Pipeline Burst

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary interruption in water supply to parts of Western Accra following damage to a 500mm diameter main pipeline supplying the affected areas.

In a statement released on August 28, 2026, GWL explained that the damage occurred during excavation works undertaken by AWERCO Construction Ltd, which led to a burst on the pipeline and flooded the entire trench. The excavation forms part of the construction of underground storm drains between Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction.

The affected areas include Mallam, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Mataheko, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Dansoman Township, Chorkor, and surrounding communities.

GWL expressed its sincere apologies to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused, assuring them that its engineers are currently on the ground working to resolve the issue.

Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) is the sole government-owned water utility in Ghana, responsible for producing, transmitting, and distributing potable water in urban areas nationwide.
