Head of the Currency Management Department at the Bank of Ghana, Dominic Owusu, has stated that the upcoming Heritage Series banknotes, set to launch on November 3, have been designed with improved tactile features to make the currency more inclusive and accessible to persons with disabilities.
Speaking during an engagement with the Federation of Disability Organisations, Owusu said the Bank gave due consideration to the needs of persons with disabilities in developing the new notes, ensuring their needs are reflected in the design.

“We recognise that people may experience different challenges when identifying currencies, handling banknotes and coins, and conducting cash transactions independently. These considerations have been well informed, and in our effort to modernise the Ghana cedi in its Heritage Series, we have taken account of these needs. We also recognise that inclusiveness is an ongoing commitment,” he stated.
Dominic Owusu added that the Bank of Ghana is looking forward to continued engagement with the Federation on the practical use of the currency.
“The Bank of Ghana therefore looks forward to continued engagement with the Federation of Disability Organisations to obtain feedback on the practical use of the Heritage Series,” he added.
The Bank of Ghana Heritage Series is an upgraded lineup of Ghana cedi banknotes set to officially launch in November, featuring national heroes, cultural symbols, monuments, and iconographic elements that highlight Ghana’s history and identity.
