Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) has denied claims of an alleged robbery incident at its Labone branch in Accra, following reports linking the branch to a foiled multi-bank robbery plot.
In a statement released on August 13, 2026, GCB said its attention had been drawn to reports regarding the alleged incident, but wished to clarify that no such incident took place.
“GCB Bank wishes to clarify that no robbery or attempted robbery took place at our Labone Branch or on the Bank’s premises. At no point was the branch breached, and no customer, member of staff, funds, or property of the Bank was affected,” the statement read.
The denial comes in response to initial media reports indicating a direct attack on the GCB branch at Labone with some reports indicating the operation was later foiled by the Ghana Police Service.
GCB assured customers that the branch remains secure and that they can continue conducting their banking transactions with confidence, adding that it “takes the safety and security of its customers, employees, and facilities very seriously,” and has robust security measures in place to prevent such incidents.
GCB said it is currently engaging with the relevant authorities and will continue to monitor developments regarding the matter.
