Fidelity Bank Marks 20th Anniversary with Launch of Jubilee Promo and Pledge to Install Solar in 20 Community Hospitals

Fidelity Bank has launched its 20th anniversary celebrations, symbolising the Bank’s impact in Ghana’s financial space and other sectors.

Speaking at the launch, which took place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Founder of Fidelity Bank, Edward Effah, recounted the bank’s humble beginnings and outlined the company’s strategy for the next phase of its growth.

Effah also advised young entrepreneurs to focus on building the right foundation and structure if they want to achieve long-term business success. He cited the bank’s good corporate governance, leadership, risk management, and technology, explaining that challenges will always come, but a business’s ability to overcome them depends largely on the foundation and structures put in place.

“Every business will face challenges from time to time, and this is for the young and budding entrepreneurs amongst us here. When a business has been built on a strong foundation, it is able to stand and bounce back when the storms come. Fidelity has been resilient and able to bounce back from many challenges due to our strong foundation of good corporate governance, strong leadership, our values, our people, our culture, good risk management, solid technology platform, and loyal customers,” the founder stated.

Also speaking at the launch, Board Chairman James Reynolds Baiden spoke of the Bank’s 20-year commitment project, marking the anniversary as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.

“For our 20th anniversary, Fidelity Bank is making a clear and practical commitment. We will install solar energy systems in 20 community hospitals across Ghana, providing clean and reliable power that does not depend on the national grid. Let me explain why we chose this path instead of the more obvious intervention. We could have renovated 20 hospitals ,it would have looked good, and there would certainly have been photographs. But after five years of building schools, we learned that the most useful question is not what looks impressive on the day of the handover. The useful question is what will still be working 10 years from now and beyond. A solar system installed this year can still be running when the child born under these lights is in secondary school,” the Board Chairman explained.

The Fourth Osu Mantse and President of the Osu Stool Council, His Royal Majesty Notse (Prof.) Nii Nortey Owuo, also spoke at the launch, making a point for the private sector’s role in national development, and arguing that private capital and innovation are essential in developing local solutions to local problems.

“When we talk of African solutions for African problems, most people think of government solutions, but private capital and private innovation are essential for it. It is a key part of what takes a country from one that is dependent on foreign aid to one that can stand on its own feet and say, ‘Yes, I can.’ And Fidelity, in more ways than one, exemplifies this.”

As part of its anniversary celebrations, the bank also launched the Fidelity Jubilee Drive Promo (Double Double Edition), aimed at rewarding loyal customers with cash and vehicle prizes. The promo runs from October 1 this year to March 30 next year.

According to Managing Director Julian Opuni, the bank plans to give away GH₵340,000 in cash and eight electric vehicles to lucky winners.
