DVLA Dismisses Misleading Reports on Overseas Services Rollout

The Management of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has urged the public to disregard misleading news headlines over the extended services of DVLA to selected foreign countries. In a statement released on February 26,2026, the Authority clarified that through an arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it aims to provide selected services including International Driver’s Permit and Driver’s Licence Renewal to qualified Ghanaian citizens residing in others countries, with the pilot phase to be undertaken in the United States of America, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands and the High Commission of the United Kingdom. DVLA also announced that this arrangement also trains and work with embassies abroad so people can handle their licence or vehicle documents through the embassy instead of travelling to Ghana. DVLA also debunked the narrative that, the DVLA would post its domestic staff to work at Embassies in the aforementioned countries. The Authority went ahead to express its commitment to serving the interest of Ghanaians and encouraged the media and individuals who require clarity or information on its operations to approach the Corporate Affairs Department for such details to avoid such misleading reportage.

Ghana Police Warn Public Over Fake Traffic Offence Payment Notices

The Ghana Police Service has noted with deep concern a viral electronic notice of traffic offence purportedly issued by the Service, which notifies some individuals of alleged traffic violations and requests them to make payments. The Service wishes to inform the general public that the notification is false, fraudulent, invalid, and not originating from the Police Service. It has therefore warned all persons circulating such notices to desist immediately, stressing that these nefarious acts constitute serious offences punishable under the law, and that perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice. The Police Service further disclosed that, in collaboration with key stakeholders including the Ministry of the Interior (Ghana), Ministry of Transport (Ghana), National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Insurance Commission (Ghana) and the Ministry of Finance (Ghana) steps are underway to engage Parliament of Ghana on amendments to road traffic regulations. The proposed changes are expected to pave the way for the rollout of an automated traffic law enforcement programme known as Traffitech-GH in the coming months. Authorities say the public will be updated on further developments regarding the initiative.

Kotoka International Airport Renamed Accra International Airport

The Ministry of Transport(Ghana) has officially reverted the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original name, Accra International Airport. In a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit on Monday, 23rd February 2026, the Ministry explained that government finds it necessary to return to the airport’s original name following its earlier redesignation. The Ministry stressed that the name change will not affect airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements, noting that the airport’s code has consistently remained “ACC” under the International Civil Aviation Organization framework. According to the statement, implementation of the renaming will involve the systematic update of official documentation, statutory instruments where necessary, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and related communication materials. The Ministry further called on the general public, stakeholders, and international partners to support and cooperate with the relevant authorities to ensure a smooth and seamless transition. The Ministry expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of all stakeholders as the process is carried out.

Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana Announces 15% Reduction in Vehicle Prices

The Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana (ADUG) has announced a 15 percent reduction in vehicle prices. In a statement released on February 15, 2026, the Union stated that the decision follows the relative stabilization of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar and the abolition of the COVID-19 levy. According to ADUG, the price adjustment fulfils a commitment made by the Union to review vehicle prices downward once exchange rate conditions improved. The Union then added that the recent exchange rate consistency has allowed its members to adjust prices across a wide range of vehicles, including brand-new, hybrid, electric, and home-used cars and hence deliver on its commitment. ”This decisive action reflects the Union’s long-standing promise to Ghanaians that any meaningful stabilization of the exchange rate would translate into fairer vehicle pricing, rather than excess profiteering. We are pleased to state that our members have acted in good faith and with a strong sense of national responsibility.” The statement also explained that in recent months, vehicle prices were heavily impacted by exchange rate volatility, high import duties, shipping costs, and global supply chain pressures. However, with improved economic conditions, the Union says members have acted in good faith to reflect the changes in pricing. ”Over the past months, the cost of vehicles in Ghana was significantly impacted by exchange rate volatility, high import duties, shipping costs, and global supply chain pressures. During this period, ADUG consistently assured the public that once the exchange rate showed signs of stability, vehicle prices would be reviewed downward. With the recent improvement and relative consistency in the exchange rate environment, our members have honoured that promise by adjusting prices across a wide range of vehicles, including brand-new, hybrid, electric, and home-used vehicles.” The Union then Proceeded to thank Ghanaians for their patience and reaffirmed its commitment to fair pricing and protecting consumer interests.’ The statement was signed by the National President of the Union, Eric Kwaku Boateng.
