IMF Raises Ghana’s 2026 Growth Forecast to 5.7%, Projects Inflation at 4.8%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised its forecast for Ghana’s economic growth in 2026 to 5.7 per cent, up from the 4.6 per cent projected in April.

The revised figures were released in the Fund’s October 2026 World Economic Outlook, published during the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

The IMF also cut its year-end inflation projection for Ghana to 4.8 per cent, which is a significant drop from the 7.9 per cent predicted in April.

The improved outlook reflects stronger export earnings, particularly from gold, government efforts to control spending, and the country’s continued commitment to its targets under the IMF’s Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) programme.

The revised growth forecast also exceeds the government’s own 4.8 per cent target outlined in the 2026 Budget, and follows first-half growth of 6.2 per cent recorded by the Ghana Statistical Service.

The IMF, however, has warned that Ghana’s dependence on gold exports is worrisome, and that the government needs to diversify its exports so as to not be unduly affected by the international market price of gold.
