The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has extended the deadline for the decongestion exercise at the Alabar trading area and other affected areas to Monday August 24, 2026.
In a press release issued on Friday August 14, 2026 under the signatory of the Public Relations Unit of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, the new arrangement was announced.
The exercise which was previously scheduled for Monday August 17, 2026 aimed at curbing issues of decongestion in areas including Alabar, Mbrom, Aboabo station and Ashtown.
This deadline extension follows an engagement between management of the assembly and the Alabar Motorcycle Association led by it’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sheriff Ennin.
During the engagement, the association pleaded for additional time to permit traders reorganise and address issues leading to the congestion in the area.
The association also appealed to the assembly and it’s Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi to define the trading spaces of traders by demarcating the frontage of their shops.
The traders pledged their commitment to cooperate with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to restore order and improve the situation by taking up measures to desist from washing motorcycles in the streets and erecting canopies in the middle of the roads.
The mayor paid heed to their plea by accepting their request indicating that the assembly would return and assess the situation and conduct the decongestion exercise on Monday, August 24, 2026.
