Ghana Police Warn Public Over Fake Traffic Offence Payment Notices

The Ghana Police Service has noted with deep concern a viral electronic notice of traffic offence purportedly issued by the Service, which notifies some individuals of alleged traffic violations and requests them to make payments.

The Service wishes to inform the general public that the notification is false, fraudulent, invalid, and not originating from the Police Service.

It has therefore warned all persons circulating such notices to desist immediately, stressing that these nefarious acts constitute serious offences punishable under the law, and that perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice.

The Police Service further disclosed that, in collaboration with key stakeholders including the Ministry of the Interior (Ghana), Ministry of Transport (Ghana), National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Insurance Commission (Ghana) and the Ministry of Finance (Ghana) steps are underway to engage Parliament of Ghana on amendments to road traffic regulations.

The proposed changes are expected to pave the way for the rollout of an automated traffic law enforcement programme known as Traffitech-GH in the coming months. Authorities say the public will be updated on further developments regarding the initiative.
